Matt Imbruglia realized that getting groceries is far from convenient for many people residing on or close to campus, and he decided to do something about it.

Imbruglia, 20, a UWM sophomore who lives in Sandburg Hall, started UW-M Grocery Getters, a grocery delivery service for UWM students, this summer. His goal: to make grocery shopping easier for those who do not have cars, don’t like the going to grocery stores or are just plain lazy.

UW-M Grocery Getters offers service to the campus and nearby surrounding area, and charges a flat $5 fee for every order.

So why should one use this service?

“There are no hassles, no lines, no waiting,” said Imbruglia. Plus, for a limited time, customers can take advantage of the introductory promotion, in which $10 is taken off of orders of $50 or more and $5 is taken off of orders of $30 to $50. Additionally, customers who refer five or more individuals to the service will get their service fee waived.

UW-M Grocery Getters will pick up pretty much anything from the grocery store, except alcoholic beverages. Imbruglia says he usually shops at Jewel-Osco or Pick ‘n Save, but is willing to shop at Sendik’s or other local markets if an item is not available at the two primary stores.

The one catch: customers pay for their items at the full retail price. Grocery Getters pockets the savings achieved from sales, store cards and other discounts.

Family members or friends who would like to provide hassle-free groceries for a UWM student can purchase gift cards online by creating a PayPal account or using a credit card. They are available in $30, $50 or $100 allotments.

Every order must include the following information: a grocery list that is as specific as possible (brands, sizes, etc.), the recipient’s name, address, dorm or apartment number and phone number, and the desired delivery date.

Groceries can only be delivered on Mondays and Thursdays. Monday delivery orders must be e-mailed or called in by 9 p.m. on Sunday and Thursday orders must be e-mailed or called in by 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Orders can be prepaid with credit card or a PayPal account online, or cash at the time of delivery.

Now that there is no full-service grocery store within reasonable walking distance of campus, this service is a helping hand to those who would rather not lug a bunch of bags on the bus or live off of campus food.
