Pete Doval knows the basics of boot camp

“I get paid for doing what I like to do, and it’s a great way to work on communication skills.”

Have you ever been interested in finding out what boot camp is really like? Well, this week’s fitness instructor, Pete Doval, can show you what his boot camp class is all about.

Doval is a sophomore this year and seems to be enjoying his first semester working in the Green Room.

“My job is fitness; I like to work out and stay fit,” Doval said. “I get paid for doing what I like to do, and it’s a great way to work on communication skills.”

He is majoring in mechanical engineering, and in his spare time enjoys playing hockey, soccer, volleyball, riding motorcycles and lifting weights.

Pete teaches his “Basics Boot Camp” on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 7:45 p.m. This is a low-to-medium-intensity class that is designed to give your body a full toning and cardio workout.

“It’s basically a well-rounded, relatively short workout, where I ask for ideas from the residents that come,” Doval said. “It’s a toning workout more than anything.”

Some of the exercises featured in the class include lunges and squats to work the legs, push-ups and work with the resistance bands for the arms, crunches and leg lifts to tone those abs and, finally, Jane Fondas and fire hydrants to work the butt and hamstrings.

“I try to work all the main muscle groups that same amount,” Doval said.

On Nov. 16, Pete is putting on “UFC Night” in Flicks. It is a special program that will include a combination of self-defense instruction along with watching a UFC fight.

“You can come to Flicks and watch the best-mixed martial arts fighters in the world,” Doval said.

Don’t miss Pete’s program on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in Flicks. Snacks will be provided during the fight.

Be sure to try out Pete’s class on either Monday or Thursday night.
