Each floor even has its own lounge with a 32-inch flat-screen TV, paired with a quiet study room.
Residents of Sandburg have many opportunities and benefits at their fingertips, as well as opportunities such as tutors and the brand new Channel lounge.
However, couldn’t we say the same about residents of RiverView, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s brand new resident complex?
With the never-ending number of amenities provided for these students, you’ll never hear them complain.
A new resident, and transfer student from the UW-Oshkosh, Amanda Albrecht has much to say about RiverView housing.
“My favorite thing about RiverView is the quality of the rooms. Compared to the Oshkosh dorm rooms, these are amazing. We have an awesome view of downtown from our window and they are just really nice rooms,” Albrecht said.
One could make a long list of differences between Riverview and the Sandburg towers; however, are these differences an advantage for the new dorms?
Riverview, like Sandburg, has four towers, along with lounges for each house. Each floor even has its own lounge with a 32-inch flat screen TV, paired with a quiet study room.
Chris Caplan, also a new resident at RiverView, feels very safe in the new complex. He is still in the process of using the RiverView resources.
“My roommate has (used the new study rooms) and it seems to have helped him out. He makes it sound like he's the only person in there,” says Chris, when asked how the study rooms are working out for him.
Not only are there flat-screen TVs and a study room for each floor, but the suites and rooms are of high quality. Each room has a full-size walk-in closet, desks and lofts, a personal thermostat for each suite as well as a shower separated off from the sink and toilet area. It’s like living in a four-star hotel room.
RiverView is located off campus and requires a shuttle for the residents to get to and from campus. This shuttle is a private bus that picks the residents up at the complex’s front door and takes them to campus for class.
“The shuttle is a good idea; it's nice because I don't have to walk as much as most students who live on campus do,” said Caplan. He admits that there is a down-side to the shuttle, however. “It takes about 20 minutes to get from RiverView to campus, which is kind of annoying sometimes.”
Caplan even admitted that taking the shuttle has caused him to miss a couple classes already due to the extended commute time.
Albrecht, on the other hand, reports no troubles with the transportation service to date.
“The shuttle is actually pretty efficient. I've learned to take it at least a half-hour before my class starts because it takes anywhere from 15-20 minutes to get to campus,” Albrecht said.
With all these amenities RiverView has to offer UWM students, it is turning into a convenient and haute place for students to call home.
