At least 5 dead, 15 injured in Northern Illinois University shooting
A gunman opened fire Thursday in a full lecture hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University shortly before 3 p.m. According to police, the gunman is dead. The shooting took place in Cole Hall near the King Commons, a central gathering place on the 25,000-student campus.
Annual drag show to benefit Project Q
The 2008 Union drag show will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. The show is free, for all ages, and is open to the public. There will be performances by professional drag queens, drag kings and amateurs. Project Q is the youth program of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center.
Rubin Whitmore II to discuss portrayal of African-Americans in media
A discussion of African-Americans in the media will take place in the Union Fireside Lounge on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The free event is sponsored by the UWM Union’s Sociocultural Programming Department and will feature Rubin Whitmore II, a hip-hop scholar and social commentator.
