Voted ‘Best New Club’ by the Shepherd Express’s ‘Best of Milwaukee 2007’ poll, it’s no secret that Decibel is the East Side’s place to dance on Friday and Saturday nights.

When Mantra Lounge closed its doors in February of 2007 after a strong five-year run, it was another opportunity for the club space occupying the basement of Beans and Barley to transform itself once again.

This time with three veterans of Milwaukee’s nightlife scene at the helm, J.J. Kovacovich, Drew Deuster and D. Bowie, a new era of entertainment was born.

Opening their doors in the spring of 2007, Decibel/Deepbar, located at1905 E North Ave. has set a new standard of excellence for nightclubs in Milwaukee, and has helped revitalize nightlife on the city’s eastside.

The establishment is essentially two venues in one. One side is the dance club (Decibel), while the other side is Deepbar, an upscale lounge.

Having to gain entrance to Decibel through Deepbar, customers walk directly into the spacious lounge area decked out with plenty of booth seating and leather couches, in addition to a pool table. Club goers are greeted with the sounds of smooth jazz and house music as well as a blend of ‘80s, ‘90s and hip-hop tunes from some of Milwaukee’s up and coming DJs.

Deepbar also serves as Milwaukee’s first vodka lounge, featuring over 120 different vodkas from around the globe. Patrons can sample different varieties in chilled three course flights starting at $12, or browse the selection at their own leisure. Top dollar spirits include the Jean Marc XO, Ultimat and Stoli Elite.

The creative minds behind the bar have taken their time in carefully crafting a Martini and specialty drink menu that quickly draws your attention with an assortment of exotic ingredients and liquor combinations.

Boasting unique offerings such as the Blackberry and White Tea Mojito, or the “Tamarind Martini” (containing muddled basil leaves, tamarind nectar, 44 North Vodka, Pearl Coconut and a splash of blue Curacao), new flavors are discovered within each drink.

Deepbar also offers a well-rounded wine list and a beer selection of 40 plus varieties, featuring local favorites in addition to a decent assortment of imports and microbrews.

Voted “Best New Club” by the Shepherd Express’s “Best of Milwaukee 2007” poll, it’s no secret that Decibel is the East Side’s place to dance on Friday and Saturday nights.

With a rotating lineup of Chicago’s finest DJs, including DJ Wizz Kid, White Shadow, DJ Streetz, DJ Gem and DJ Sy Young, spinning today’s hottest hip-hop, house, and mash-ups, the music is designed to get your feet moving.

Although it can get crowded on the weekends, you’ll have no problems finding a drink with bars at each end of club and an accommodating V.I.P. section offering bottle service for parties.

Aside from the dance party that takes place every Friday and Saturday night, the club has a variety of events throughout the week catering to everyone.

Tuesday nights are S.I.N. (service industry night) at Decibel. Those who work in the service industry receive $3 call and rail drinks, as well as domestic and import beers.

Everyone receives $3 Effen vodka drinks and bombs all night. Thursdays are Ladies Night at Deepbar, where the ladies can treat themselves to two complimentary martinis and also enjoy $4 Three Olives Vodka flavors all night.

Decibel also caters to gay and alternative lifestyles on Sunday nights with PUMP.

Dress to impress is the theme at the door, as long lines and strict bouncers will keep you waiting if you aren’t dressed to the nines. Be sure to keep the tennis shoes and baggy jeans at home, as they are surefire ways of not getting into the club.

Decibel is sure to be a staple of Milwaukee’s East Side for years to come partly due to the fact that they offer a little bit of something for everyone along with two unique atmospheres in one venue. Most importantly, they provide a place to enjoy good drinks and great music amongst friends.
