Summer courses are only a few months away, and students are looking for housing options close to campus to accommodate their new schedules. This is where Sandburg steps in with their summer housing contracts.
Registered University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students are allowed to sign contracts to stay in university housing facilities over the summer. Students participating in a University-sponsored internship with a Milwaukee-based firm also have that option.
You do not need to stay the entire summer to sign a contract. They are priced and signed based on how many weeks an individual wishes to stay. Prices also change based on the type of room one stays in.
Security is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week in the dorms, due in part to the special groups in the residence hall throughout the summer. Guest policies, however, are a bit more lenient in the summer months than they are during the academic year.
“This does not mean that any Joe Schmoe will be allowed entrance,” according to Sandburg security officials.
Meal plans are not available during the summer session. The cafeteria and Emporium will be open on select occasions, such as special group stays, and during select hours.. The Sandburg Grind will also provide limited service.
Little to no programs and special attractions will be available through the dorms until fall semester, due to the limited number of actual students who will be staying in the dorms. The Green Room fitness facility, for example, will be closed.
The Klotsche Center is, however, still open for business during its summer hours. Summer passes are available for non-students.
All residents are housed in North and East towers to make room turnovers for fall a less tedious process. If a resident would like to stay the entire summer and has signed a fall 2008 contract, they won’t move until their room is turned over.
But, if a resident is not staying in the dorms beyond class sessions, they will be asked to pack up once their summer term is complete. The beginning of August marks room changes for individuals in the dorms, as new residents may start moving in starting mid- to late-August.
