Voter turnout down in Sandburg
Number of ballots slightly less than 2004

While many Americans expected massive voter turnout, the voting numbers at Sandburg Hall actually fell slightly from the last presidential election in 2004 between George W. Bush and John Kerry.
Voters expecting long lines at the poll inside University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Sandburg Hall were pleasantly surprised to find little to no wait Tuesday Nov. 4.
Election observer Geebee Vang described the scene in Sandburg as “quiet”, speaking outside the poll. Sandburg Hall plays host to two of Milwaukee’s 314 wards as a polling place, wards 39 and 40.
While many Americans expected massive voter turnout, the voting numbers at Sandburg Hall actually fell slightly from the last presidential election in 2004 between George W. Bush and John Kerry.
This year, Democrats and Republicans received a combined total of 3213 votes in Sandburg Hall, which is down by 509 from 3722 in 2004.
Democratic candidate Barack Obama collected 2301 total in the two wards. Republican candidate John McCain got 28 percent of the vote with 912 ballots cast at Sandburg Hall. Independent candidate Ralph Nader collected 23 votes.
