Pizza lovers, rejoice! Sal’s Pizza on Oakland and Linnwood, only a short walk from campus, is now open to the public.

Sal’s is a true pizzeria with an aroma of garlic filling the air and a masterful variety of pizza on display. Storeowner Bekim is a native New Yorker from Brooklyn and calls his restaurant “true New York pizza” that’s convenient for college students. Weekend hours extend to 3 a.m.

Not only does Sal’s serve pizza topped with Mac and Cheese, spicy buffalo chicken and what’s called a Godfather (sausage, ham, bacon, pepperoni & mozzarella), it also specializes in calzones, Stromboli, and mouth-watering deserts like deep fried cheesecake.

What sets Sal’s apart from other pizza chains around campus is the food variety and its love for college students — college IDs reward 10% off a full pizza. If pizza lovers can’t down a whole pizza, Sal’s offers pizza-by-the-slice starting at $2 as well as a combo of a slice of pizza, a garlic knot and a large soda for $5.

Bekin warns students to keep an eye out for the “Grand Opening Day,” where the first 10 customers are eligible to have free pizza for a year. This announcement will be posted in Sal’s store windows and in the Shepard Express.

  1. Free is always a good word to see when it is followed by food. Pizza is one of those foods that will always be loved my many people, far and wide. One of the cooler things about pizza is that there are many different types of pizza. All of this pizza talk is making me hungry, for pizza!
