#UWMvital is a new social media campaign created by the Budget Communication Committee to be another way for students to share the reasons why UWM is important to them and their future as budget cuts approach.

In order to participate, students must pick up one of the black oval stickers that says #UWMvital on it, take a picture, and post it to Twitter or Instagram using #UWMvital and explaining why UWM is so meaningful to them.

Many students have shared their stories already. Natakm @natakm_ said that, “UWM is vital to me because I’ve been able to build a sense of community along with my education.”

On Instagram, lizbuerger also participated in the campaign: “UWM is vital in helping me invest in my future and providing quality education and experiences to students.”

Tina Keller is Communications Specialist at University Relations. She sees the campaign as a way to illustrate the significance of a college education and experience to students and the community.

“The goal is to increase UWM’s visibility and impact in the Milwaukee area and beyond, showing why higher education is important to the future of our students,” said Keller.

This campaign has also been turned into a contest. One winner will be selected per day per medium –kj Twitter and Instagram) to be invited to join Chancellor Mark Mone at a pizza party. There will also be one overall winner picked per medium who will attend a Brewers game with the chancellor.

This contest will continue through April 24. Students can pick up stickers at the Student Success Center, Center for Student Involvement, Student Association Office, Hefter Conference Center, Klotsche Center, Mitchell B95, Engelmann 125, and the lobbies of residence halls, Northwest Quadrant, School of Architecture and Urban Planning.
