The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has cancelled classes starting after 4 p.m. on Monday, January 27 through classes starting before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28 in correlation with the National Weather Service wind chill advisory issued Monday morning.

Campus parking will be free to students between the hours of class cancellations, from 4 p.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Tuesday for all outdoor spaces except spaces for drivers with a handicap, 30-minute limits, and special restrictions or emergency vehicles.

Campus facilities will remain open to students and university operations will continue to run as scheduled. The university urges students and staff to take appropriate precautions from the cold.

The UWM Police Department will be available to assist anyone who may experience difficulty with their vehicle while on campus or provide help to individuals who have trouble gaining access to facilities. The non-emergency number for UWM Police is 414-229-4627.

The wind chill warning begins Monday at 9 p.m. and concludes Tuesday at 12 p.m. Winds are estimated to reach between 15 and 25 MPH through the early afternoon Tuesday, lowering the temperature to between 35 and 45 degrees below zero Monday night and Tuesday morning. Such temperatures and wind chills can lead to frostbite of exposed skin within 10 minutes.
