UWM has many things to offer that other colleges don’t. One perk of attending UWM is that we have access to the B.O.S.S. service.
It’s great. It gets you from point A to point B safely and with no cost. So there shouldn’t be a reason for students to complain, right? Well, yes and no.
While B.O.S.S. is a great way to get around and “be on the safe side,” I have more issues with it than not. I can get over the ridiculous winter hours and that they’re never on time, but I’ve recently been pushed to limit where I’m like, “Come on man!”
I went on the UWM B.O.S.S. page on the school website and it looks great; it’s easy to use and full of information. It has the hours, other options for transportation, safety tips, even a FAQ tab. However, maybe you didn’t notice because one B.O.S.S. driver I chatted with recently had to fight to update it after over three years of being extremely outdated. It wasn’t even of the same format as the rest of the website before this hero’s miracle work on the page.
I decided to do a little digging and found out that all the updates we need to know about B.O.S.S. is on the “UWM Boss” Facebook page. Things like that they were not in operation on MLK Day and that we have to request a ride in whole new location of the Union now. Sucks for those who don’t use Facebook much, huh?
According to the B.O.S.S. page on the UWM website, B.O.S.S. caters to 600 to 800 students per night. I feel like that’s enough to where there should have been some sort of notification about the B.O.S.S. desk’s transfer from the main service desk in the Union up to the third floor.
“But Leah,” you say, “there was a sign at the service desk.” That’s right, reader. The sign said to call B.O.S.S. to receive a ride. When you call you have to wait to talk to somebody and then they will tell you that you must take the elevator up to the third floor to request your ride in their new office, if you are leaving from the Union. If you haven’t called B.O.S.S. before I can tell you right now you may be on hold for the rest of your life. I would suggest just putting a sign saying where the new office is.
By the way, I have been up to that new office and it is tiny and secluded with B.O.S.S. employees who wish to be downstairs again.
For those who don’t know, as many don’t, you will take the elevator to the third floor, head straight until you see the B.O.S.S sign and it’s to the right in room 322.
I know we’re lucky to even have B.O.S.S., but it was so much more convenient being located a hop, skip, and a jump away from where the cars pick us up rather than having to take the elevator up floor to talk to someone for not even a minute and then go back down.
I had a B.O.S.S. driver who pleaded with us to fill out these forms they have up in the new office so they can get this act reversed.
If you also feel that B.O.S.S. isn’t being very boss right now, do your part and write them your opinion. If you’re cool with all this jazz, then kudos to you, because I’m not.
