Dan Carey has been named UWM’s new assistant coach for the upcoming women’s basketball season by fourth-year head coach Kyle Rechlicz.

“Dan worked incredibly hard as our video coordinator and definitely deserves the opportunity to move up to an assistant coach position,” Rechlicz said. “Recruiting is the lifeblood to our program and I know Dan will continue to outwork people for the types of players we need to be successful.”
Carey, who has spent the last two seasons as the team’s video coordinator, fills the vacancy left by former assistant coach Jessica Wilhite.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity and couldn’t be more excited to stay on Coach Rechlicz’s staff in this new role,” Carey said. “I look forward to bringing energy, enthusiasm and passion to every aspect of this job.”

As video coordinator, Carey handled film exchange, editing and game breakdown for scouting and highlight video purposes. He also assisted with the administrative side of the program. In his new position as assistant coach, he will help Coach Rechlicz with scouting and recruiting along with player development.

Carey’s background in coaching includes a four year stint as head coach of the women’s varsity team at Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wis., where he developed the team into one of the top programs in the state. Under Carey’s guidance, the Chargers won the first two Greater Metro Conference championships in the program’s history.
