The on campus Sports Club is boasting another successful year of student involvement.

During welcome week on the campus of UW-Milwaukee, the UWM Sports Club held their inaugural sports club fair.

The UWM Sports Club, which offers a large variety of intramural sports to students on campus, aimed to target themselves to new incoming freshman and others that are intrigued by team sports.

The Sports Club feels as if the event ran particularly smoothly, with a sense of excitement- their involvement numbers are on the rise.

“Many of our clubs have seen an increase in participants at tryouts,” Sports Club Coordinator Melissa Moutry said. “Clubs like ice hockey had tryouts for the first time in quite some time, and women’s soccer saw a good number of students come out and try out for the team.”

Moutry has high hopes that student involvement and attention towards the Sports Club will continue to rise throughout the year, as there are plenty of opportunities to be seized.

“All of our clubs are now in the full swing of their seasons and are competing,” she said. “We do have some home games on the schedule that will hopefully get some more interest in seeing the participants compete.”

Currently, the UWM Sports Club prides 21 different sports organizations. Students have the opportunity to start a sports league of their own choice as well.

“The first step is to come talk to me and I can talk about the requirements to become a sports club or organization,” Moutry stated. She went on to encourage student involvement within the variety of sports clubs offered within the organization.

“The reason we don’t have a particular club is because a student hasn’t started. It really comes from students’ input and interest as to what sports clubs exist on campus.”

Moutry foreshadowed the Sports Club holding a fair during welcome week in the upcoming years given the monumental success of this fall’s event.
