On Saturday, September 12, the 47th Frank Mots Kite Festival for 2026 took place in Veteran’s Park.
Multiple families came with young children. Many kites flew over both days, all brightly colored and in different shapes and sizes. There were even a few stunt show groups, such as Fire and Ice, Jim Cosca and the Chicago Fire Kite Team, that gave small performances.
This event was fun for both families and solo people. The expertise ranged from first-time kite flying to experts and pros.
Upon asking several willing participants who showed up at the kite festival three questions, these were the responses I got to each question:
How did they hear about it?
Many claimed to have gotten in touch through family and friends; others stated that they had been coming for years. One man replied, “I have been coming here for years. I’ve been flying kites ever since I was a young boy.”
What interested them in participating?
The majority said that the kites had grabbed their interest in entering the festival. These participants also relayed that it built a sense of community within Milwaukee. When faced with the question.
Do you believe you will have a good time?
100% of participants replied with a definite ‘yes.’ Overall, the kite festival was a huge sensation, and many will come back again in the following years.
