Canadian music producer and DJ Troy Beetles, better known by his stage name Datsik, permeated The Miramar Theatre Thursday night on his Ninja Nation tour with his strongest hip-hop, metal, and bass influenced, dubstep pieces.
Opening up for the well-known young dubstep star, included Kennedy Jones, Fox Stevenson, and Twine. Although I made it just in time for Datsik, who began performing at 12:45 a.m., I did get to see some of Kennedy Jones. Unlike other concerts I’ve attended where the opener rarely receives attention, Kennedy Jones had me initially fooled he was Datsik from the way the crowd was reacting.
The dancing crowd was relentless, and created a friendly and energetic atmosphere. No matter where you stood or by who, you were greeted with hugs and other welcoming gestures. Although Datsik didn’t have his Vortex 3.0 visuals or his pK sound system with 100,000 watts, React and Brew City Bass supplied Datsik with an impressive projecting light system. With that, he didn’t disappoint a single fan dropping his most popular tracks with smooth transitions. The crowd constantly cheered, chanted and jumped around with their hands in the air.
One of the highlights of the night was when he dropped his trap remix of “Swagga,” which was a collaboration with Excision, which had the crowd chanting lines from the track. Other memorable tracks he played included Katana, No Requests and Get Smashed. My personal favorite would have to be his mix Epic Closer which included Britney Spears song “Toxic” and Flux Pavillions song “I Can’t Stop.”
When it came to the end of the short lively show and Datsik stepped off stage, and the crowd chanted for one more show. Datsik came out and finished with his mashup of Juicy by Notorious B.I.G. and Ghostwriter by RJD2.
Simply put, the show was a notable and exciting experience which will have me buying a concert ticket a second time if Datsik would ever find himself in Wisconsin again.
