Last week, Zayn Malik, singer in popular boy band One Direction, announced that he was taking a break from their on-going world tour because of “stress.” Yesterday, he announced that he was leaving the band all together.
We, MJ and Bo, are devastated by the news. We are ticket holders to One Direction’s “On the Road Again” tour coming in August to Miller Park. No matter how amazing the four other members are, the show will not amount to more than 80 percent awesome. Despite our mourning, we managed to conquer our sobs and ask a few UW- Milwaukee students about their reactions to Zayn’s departure.
“He can do whatever the hell he wants!”
– Breana Farrell, Junior
“The weather is gloomy today because of Zayn.”
-Hunter Hanthorn, Sophomore
“I don’t give a f*@#. I’ve never cared.”
-Riley Peterson, Sophomore
“I don’t really care, because I don’t follow One Direction.”
– McKenzie Farrell, Junior
“I don’t really care because I don’t listen to their music. He can do whatever he wants.”
-Brandon Vetterkind, Sophomore
“I was so sad and teared up a little bit. I just feel lucky I got to see them last August as a group of five. I’m just saying strong for Harry and the rest of the band. Let’s just say, if Harry left, I wouldn’t be taking this lightly.”
-Anna Johannes, Sophomore
“I’m wearing black in mourning.”
– Wyatt Tinder, Junior
“It’s important that he works on his health and happiness first and foremost, but One Direction will never be the same without his talent and mysterious presence.”
-Alexis Pederson, Sophomore
“Shane left One Direction? OH NO!!!”
– Alex Rosenquist, Junior
“I’m not a fan of One Direction, but I think Zayn is the hottest. He’s totally going to be a star if he goes solo.”
-Gabby Barriere, Sophomore
“I don’t care at all.”
-Jordyn Noennig, Sophomore
Despite the mix of reactions from fans and non-fans, we will always love you Zayn.
