National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from Oct. 15 to Sept. 15. As it comes to an end, the conversations about Hispanic and Latino culture, events and overall recognition also come to a close.
As much as I have loved learning and observing this month, I would like to recommend a heartfelt series to end the month on a fun note.
“Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar” is a Mexican coming of age series that Amazon Prime Video describes as a comedy drama. The show has two seasons and its overall rating is 8.3/10 on Prime.

The series takes place in 1994 in Mexico City, exploring the lives of young teenagers in their last two years of high school and their sneaky school business. It consists of selling homework, school assignments and projects to make money for their own personal gain.
The show kicks off by presenting our central characters who are Alex, Tenoch, Daniella and Marifer. A new character is also introduced into to the group, named Memo. The show gives a glimpse of each character’s lifestyles and the setting of modern day Mexico.
“Viento” by Caifanes plays in the background giving the show that youthful and nostalgic sensation most fans adore.
The series itself explores and deals with difficult topics throughout the series in the lenses of young minds. It has the hardships and emotional baggage one feels so deeply at that age.
The directors, Samuel Kishi and Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, are not afraid to show the rawness of specific topics within the series. The focus is how characters decide to move past it or continue pushing forward.
Alongside that, the soundtrack and way of shooting also play a big role in capturing the show’s essence. A monocamera captures the show, making it feel intimate for viewers as it consists of straightforward shots. The camera values a distorted, lively color, with a computer-like look.
When shooting intense and major scenes with the camera, there is always a song that coincides with the moment perfectly.
Tracks featured in the series include “A Un Minuto de Ti,” “Mátenme Porque Me Muero” and “En Algún Lugar.” These songs are widely known and loved among generations, making the series feel dreamy and nostalgic.
“Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar” is an amazing series made by Latino minds. The show highlights a love for Latino culture and arts.
They show us how there is a fine line between being a teenager and that transition into adulthood from different points of view, depending on which character we focus on.
It is important for the Hispanic community to see a series that accurately represents the culture in a unique way.
It’s safe to say that it is easy to relate to the show in one way or another, making it have a lasting impact on television. In my opinion, watching this show is a good way to end Hispanic Heritage Month.
