It’s a common question: sex or chocolate? When alternative/indie rock band The 1975 plays the Rave on Sunday, October 20, you can have both. Well, kind of. The band is sure to play their two most popular songs (“Sex” and “Chocolate”), along with cuts from their recently released self-titled debut album. The set will also span songs from their four EPs: Facedown, Sex, Music for Cars, and IV. Their blend of alternative and indie rock, along with the electronic elements that are often incorporated, is sure to get the crowd moving.
The English, Manchester-based band – vocalist/guitarist Matthew Healy, guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald and drummer George Daniel – started playing music together in 2002, while the members were still in high school. It wasn’t until February 2012, however, that they first performed as The 1975, as a support act for General Fiasco. The ball started rolling from there, with the band touring extensively and garnering radio attention. The 1975 supported Muse in London, toured the U.S. with The Neighbourhood, played the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the U.K., and – get this – supported The Rolling Stones for a show in Hyde Park. Needless to say, they were blowing up.
The self-titled album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. However, this fan base doesn’t always cross over into the U.S., as evidenced by the venue they’re playing: the basement stage of the Rave, which is the smallest room out of the three that fall under the Rave/Eagles Ballroom moniker.
It’s not often that you get to see one of the biggest bands in the U.K. playing one of the smallest stages in Milwaukee. Next time they come around, it’s very likely that The 1975 will be playing to a much larger crowd. It’ll be a special show that you’d be foolish to miss.
The band is bringing along Linus Young, an up-and-coming indie rock act with a formidable stage presence.
