The 1975 brought the “At Their Very Best” Tour to the Rave’s Eagles Ballroom on Saturday night for FM 102.1’s Big Snow Show. This was the band’s fourth time selling out the famous Milwaukee venue.
The English pop-rock band has been going viral on TikTok for the past few weeks, due to frontman Matty Healy’s eccentric stage presence. He recently invited fans onstage to kiss them and later spit on cameras. Healy brought the same energy to Milwaukeeans this weekend.
Here’s what you missed:
A Surprise Balcony Performance
Fans were caught off guard as Healy appeared in the VIP balcony section for a performance of “Fallingforyou” from The 1975’s self-titled album.
He acted drunk to fit a character as he held a wine bottle and smoked a cigarette with a wine stain down the front of his white button-up shirt. But, as we know from yet another viral TikTok, it was definitely not a menthol cigarette.
The 1975’s Greatest Hits
After already performing the currently-viral 2014 classic “Robbers” and “About You” from the 2022 album Being Funny In A Foreign Language, Healy made an announcement.
“We are getting to the point in our show that I suppose we can say ten years down the road,” the lead vocalist said. “…Our greatest hits!”
The band followed the statement by performing fan-favorite songs like “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” and “Somebody Else”. Before getting to the heavy-hitting track “Love It If We Made It,” Healy got candid with the crowd on his aggravation toward modern politics and the difficulties of performing in this climate.
“I’m not crying because of that,” Healy said, fighting back tears. “The world is heavy. It’s heavy. I love you guys.”
The Moss and Blackstarkids
Before The 1975’s set, The Moss performed an intimate set in the Rave Bar for winners of the FM 102.1 Big Snow Show contest. Five special winners and a guest also won a meet and greet with The 1975 on top of the entry to the pre-show. The Moss set the vibe for the whole evening with covers of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” and their own “Insomnia”.
Openers Blackstarkids brought an insanely fun energy to the ballroom. With songs like “Jimmy Neutron” and “Frankie Muniz”, the Missouri hip-hop/indie band prepared the crowd for a fantastic night.
Matty Healy Kissing Two Cameramen
Yes, you read that right. After a long-winded speech about not kissing fans anymore, Healy broke his vow and puckered up for not one, but two cameramen within minutes during “The Sound”.
“I’m not doing any more kissing,” Healy said jokingly lying to fans before the song. “I’m sorry, I can’t kiss any more people.”
He prefaced the first kiss with a classy pelvic thrust into the camera, a giggle and a cute hug before macking on the initial lucky male worker on stage right.
“Come here, baby,” Healy pointed at the second center cameraman, pulling him in for a smooch. The crowd’s positive reaction was ear-piercing.
