For our generation, it feels like the Jonas Brothers have been around forever.
After releasing their first album, A Little Bit Longer, in 2006, the JoBros would go on to star in their own self-titled (and short-lived) Disney Channel show, as well as Camp Rock and its sequel, Camp Rock 2: the Final Jam.
In 2013, they went on hiatus; in the meantime, Nick had a successful solo career with the hit singles “Jealous” and “Chains” while Joe formed the band DNCE, which also had their own hit, “Cake by the Ocean.” Kevin, meanwhile, had a reality TV show called Married to Jonas (yes, really).
In 2019, the three reunited for their comeback single “Sucker” and subsequent album Happiness Begins. In anticipation of their sixth studio album, The Album, which dropped May 12, I have ranked my six favorite songs from the Jonas Brothers.
If we’re to be so lucky, they’ll keep dropping hits until Year 3000.
6. “Wings” (From The Album)
The lead single from the Jonas Brothers’ sixth studio album has only one problem: it’s far too short!
Coming in at just under two minutes, the seventies-inspired “Wings” features a gorgeous pre-chorus that soars into the chorus, “You are the wings I need to fly away.” Their follow-up, “Waffle House,” is just as jazzy, demonstrating their matured sound and the fact that the Jonas Brothers are truly here to make us dance (and hungry for waffles).
5. “Play My Music” (From Camp Rock)
“Play My Music” is an appropriately-titled song from the Golden Age of Disney Channel Original Movies.
This bop was sung by the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock, where they played a famous band called Connect 3 (if only their brother Frankie had been in it, they could’ve been Connect 4). By the end of the film, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato had fallen in love, and understandably so.
This song proves that the Jonas Brothers’ music deserves to be played until the end of time.
4. “Live to Party” (From Jonas)
Say what you will about the acting on the Jonas Brothers’ two-season Disney Channel show. The same cannot be said about the music.
Much like the Jo Bros’ other songs, the theme from their show is here to make you dance. Nick reminds us that instead of staying at home watching TV all alone, we should call up our friends and throw a party. The opening credits are as iconic as the lyrics themselves.
Also, remember when Joe had flat-ironed hair? 2009 was a crazy time.
3. “Pom Poms” (From LiVe)
“Pom Poms” was supposed to be the lead single off the Jonas Brothers’ fifth album in 2013, but that never came to fruition. Regardless, we still got this banger with ridiculously entertaining lyrics such as, “[I] want you like a kid just wants a milkshake.”
Added as the cherry on top, we get a key change and incredibly high falsetto notes at the end (courtesy of Nick, naturally). If only they had released an album instead of breaking up 10 years ago, we may have gotten even more hits.
2. “Burnin’ Up” (From A Little Bit Longer)
A music video featuring Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers parodying various action movies? Check.
A chorus with super catchy lyrics? Double check.
A rap verse sung by their bodyguard ‘Big Rob’? Triple Check.
Released four days after Camp Rock, “Burnin’ Up” was the first Jonas Brothers’ single that hit the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing their teen idol status. Everything here is in peak form, from the lyrics “I’m slippin’ into the lava” to Joe’s declaration that he can’t grow a mustache in the music video.
After you press play above and take a listen, you’ll be burning up for this song.
1. “Sucker” (From Happiness Begins)
“Sucker” is the Jonas Brothers’ comeback single after they reunited in 2019. It’s also the high point of their discography.
With a catchy whistle post-chorus and inescapable lyrics that are often heard playing at shopping malls or on the radio, “Sucker” showcases the Jonas Brothers’ vocal maturity.
To celebrate their reunion, they even dropped a ridiculously awesome music video featuring the Jonas brothers singing in a mansion, licking lollipops (a.k.a. suckers, get it?), and hanging out with their respective wives (Danielle Jonas, Sophie Turner and Priyanka Chopra Jonas), making the world go “awww” and presumably breaking the Internet.
The Jo Bros have come a long way since their Disney days, and after dropping The Album on Firday, I can’t see where they go next.
