Dungeons and Dragons Network, a student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, hosted the event “Hobbit Con: Renaissance Faire,” on Sept. 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The student-led organization created the event to “celebrate the arts, fantasy and community,” according to the event description on the university website, and “help raise funds for student clubs and host small local artists.”
The event took place in the Union Ballroom within the UW-Milwaukee Student Union, at 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
This renaissance fair had a large number of vendors for attendees to visit, and held a jousting activity every other hour until 5:00 p.m.
After the jousting activities, a costume contest began where multiple attendees in costumes went on stage and displayed their creativity.
Gale, the winner of the contest, has been to five renaissance festivals in the past and has a passion for putting together costumes. “It doesn’t feel real,” said Gale when asked about how it felt to win the costume contest.
During and after the event ended, several attendees were asked if they had any regrets about attending, and every person agreed that they had no regrets and would love to attend another.
“I really love seeing students come together and feel included within the Dungeons and Dragons community,” the host of the event, Ra’Shida Rockette commented.
Sam, who helped assist with setting up the event, added that it was “a successful event and gathering of people who love costumes, crafts and anything geeky.”
Overall, from both sides of the fun-filled event, host and attendee, it was an extremely successful day.
