The UW-Milwaukee Police Department is hiring students to be Community Service Officers (CSOs) on campus. In this role, a student will be a civilian uniformed employee of the UWM Police Department, and they will assist in performing non-emergency duties.

CSOs will provide services that enhance the community relations and operational efficiency of the UWM Police Department. They will act as foot patrol on the UWM campus and buildings to ensure the safety and security of the campus community.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Actively Enrolled as a UWM Student
  • Hold a Valid Driver’s License
  • Pass a Background Check
  • Work Outdoors in Inclement Weather
  • Willing to Learn Basic First Aid and Self-Defense

This job will be part-time, and it pays $16 per hour with shifts occurring Monday-Saturday, with both daytime and evening hours.

The UWM Police Department is currently hiring for this position, and applications are due by July 17, 2026. A CSO will work approximately 5-25 hours per week. There is a potential for year-round shifts.

CSO’s Job Tasks:

  • Non-emergency duties include traffic control, lost and found property or minor incidents.
  • Uniform foot patrol of the UWM campus and its buildings.
  • Motor vehicle assistance, including lockouts and jump-starts.
  • Provide customer service at the public counter or over the telephone.
  • Support special events and community engagement programs on campus.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Police Department and the UWM community.
  • Assist UWM Police Department officers with administrative and support tasks.

Students with Criminal Justice and related majors are preferred but not required. Individuals with previous experience in public service, security, customer service or related fields are encouraged to apply.
