We’ve rounded up some costume ideas for 2020 that are both great and yet also terrible ideas after the year we’ve had so far. So, proceed with caution and make sure to ask yourself “are we at a point where we can laugh about this, or is it too soon?” We’ve rated the costumes on a scale of one through five, one being too soon and five being go right ahead, we need this laugh.
Toilet Paper – 3.5/5
If you’re thinking of dressing up like the giant tube of toilet paper that so many of us desperately searched for earlier this year, we say go for it. Just don’t use actual toilet paper in the creation of your costume – it’s too soon for that.
Zoom Call Business Attire – 4.5/5
This is a relatable, hilarious, accurate depiction of one of the best parts of our lives over the last eight months. Not having to wear real pants while in important meetings or classes? We are completely here for that and would love to see someone walking around in pajama bottoms and a blazer.
Tiger King / Carol Baskin – 4/5
If you’re looking to be the Tiger King himself this Halloween, we say go for it. Was this a weird way that many of us coped with being home for so long last spring? Yes. And did it provide some interesting and quality entertainment while also educating the general public about these terrible zoos where animals are held hostage? Absolutely. So, find your silky tiger shirt and mullet wig and have fun. Just, if you go as Carol Baskin be prepared that you may get cursed out every five minutes.
Anything Political – 1/5
It’s too soon. Sure, it might end up being the scariest costume at your socially distanced party, but it’s just too soon. Maybe just go vote instead.
Social Distancing, but as a costume – 5/5
This very well may be the best costume idea we’ve seen for this year. Make a giant 12-foot circle out of wire, pipe or anything else so that you have a six-foot radius around yourself at all times. This pairs well with a mask (which you should be wearing anyways) and hand sanitizer.
