Though this year’s Lollapalooza’s lineup is stacked with impressive headliners such as Bruno Mars and Vampire Weekend, it wouldn’t be possible without the more ‘indie’ acts playing throughout the day. Catching smaller artists you’ve never heard of is a sure way to get your money’s worth, and may give you bragging rights with your friends when they explode into the music scene. Take Halsey for example. In 2015, the now-mega-star performed at the secluded and intimate BMI stage to a rather thin crowd. Just a year leader she was among the larger-font artists on the lineup, playing the headlining Samsung stage to thousands. Here are 5 up-and-coming artists to catch at this year’s fest:

  1. Post Animal- Formed in 2014, this psychedelic rock band has just begun to explode into the indie-music scene. Following the recent release of their album “When I Think of You in a Castle,” their set is one to watch. Catch Post Animal on Friday at 1:50 p.m. at the American Eagle Stage.
  2. Superorganism- If you want to catch a band right at the start of their bound-to-be-successful career, Superorganism is your best bet. Formed in 2017, the 8-piece international group has created their own style, with unique influences from electronic, indie, and the recently popular “bedroom pop.” Superorganism is set to play the Tito’s stage on Sunday at 12:15.
  3. Kali Uchis- Kali Uchis’ blend of multiple genres such as R&B and doo-wop has garnered her significant traction in the music world. Her resume is nothing short of impressive either, supporting Lana Del Rey on tour and collaborating with artists such as Tyler the Creator and fellow up-and-coming artist Jorja Smith. To hear Kali Uchis’ genre-bending setlist, including her debut album “Isolation,” head to the Lake Shore stage on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
  4. The Regrettes- To get your fix of garage rock, be sure to check out The Regrettes, a female-fronted punk band from Los Angeles. Following the release of their 2017 album “Feel Your Feelings Fool!,” The Regrettes have made their mark on the indie-music scene, playing both Coachella and Bonnaroo earlier this year. To be a part of their first ever festival season, catch The Regrettes at the Grant Park stage at 12:45 p.m on Sunday.
  5. Mikky Ekko- Though Mikky Ekko has been on many’s radar as an up-and-coming artist, he was featured on Rihanna’s hit-single “Stay.” Since then, Mikky Ekko has released “Advance Copy EP,” a dynamic 5-song EP described as “post-pop.” With influences from artists such as the Pixies, Bjork and Radiohead, Mikky Ekko’s set is one you don’t want to miss. Catch him at the BMI stage on Sunday at 3:20 p.m.
