With the UW System’s new requirements, UWM has changed its COVID-19 testing policy for fully vaccinated students.
On Monday, April 26, UWM University Relations confirmed in a letter to students that UWM will join the UW System in allowing fully vaccinated students and employees to be exempt from COVID-19 testing. UW System President Tommy Thompson had made an announcement about the policy change in the UW System earlier in April.
“Beginning in the summer, UW System students, who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are going to be exempt from routine COVID-19 testing on campus,” said Thompson in a video accompanying a letter sent to UWM Student from the UWM Division of Student Affairs.
By completing the form sent from University Relations and Communications, students and employees who are fully vaccinated can officially be exempt from further testing. Students, faculty and staff will be asked to provide a copy of their vaccination card or a copy of their vaccination record from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.
Thompson said that although individuals may have received both doses of a vaccine, they are not ‘fully vaccinated’ until two weeks after they receive the last recommended dose.
Students who are not fully vaccinated still must adhere to UWM’s current testing policy. The current policy requires testing every other week for students, faculty and staff who are on campus at least once per week. Students living in residence halls are required to be tested weekly.
