Boswell Bookstore Company helped celebrate their ninth birthday and the book release for a novelist and UW-Milwaukee professor Tuesday night.
UWM Associate Professor of Creative Writing, Liam Callanan, embraced a full crowd for his latest novel,“Paris By The Book.”
“Paris by the Book,” features a woman, Leah Eady, and her daughter’sadventure after her husband mysteriously disappears leaving only plane tickets to Paris and an unfinished manuscript. The manuscript leads them to a struggling Bookstore to which they ultimately end up owning and soon unlock the beauty of French literature and more.
The novel is based on Callanan’s own experience in Paris with his family when Callanan was offered to take ownership of a suffering bookstore.
Callanan stated he revisited Paris various times before writing “Paris by the Book”, but also felt he was there when writing it.
“I loved living in Paris, vicariously through the book, it was like traveling to Paris every day, and I really felt like I was there,” said Callanan.
Callanan watched YouTube Go-Pro videos and listened to audio tracks to also create a simulation of the Parisian atmosphere.
UWM students also were in attendance at the event.
“I asked my advisor who I should talk to about creative writing and they sent me to Liam, so he invited me to come and I was really excited to see what goes on in Boswell,” said Ayla Baewer, an English major, and aspiring writer.
“One of the coolest things about being a bookstore bookseller is meeting all of the local writers,” said Boswell Bookstore Company owner, Daniel Goldin. The event is one of many book releases set for the month of April. Goldin expects to have a busy month.
Boswell’s next book release will be featuring Young Adult novelist, Kwame Alexander. Musician, Randy Peterson, will accompany him to promote his newest novel “Rebound.”
