With the approaching election, it is important that students at UW-Milwaukee know what resources are available to help prepare for the upcoming voting season.

Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and the deadline for registration is quickly approaching. UWM has many resources for students to start the voting process and make it as easy as possible. uwm.edu/vote/ has a variety of informative links on how to register, where to vote, what an absentee ballot is and more.

The deadline for online voter registration in Wisconsin is Wednesday, Oct. 16. While this date is quickly approaching, there is still time. To register online, visit myvote.wi.gov and click Register to Vote. Once you’re there, have your Wisconsin Driver’s License ready and fill in the required information. If you aren’t a Wisconsin resident or you don’t have a Wisconsin Driver’s License, you can submit a voter registration form by mail, postmarked by Oct. 16.

If you are from out of state, or are registered to vote in a different district, then you can request an absentee ballot. To start this process for Wisconsin residents, visit myvote.wi.gov and click Vote Absentee By Mail. From there, have your information ready and submit the request form. Within a few days you will receive your absentee ballot in the mail, which you fill out and mail back to your district for your vote to count. For out of state students, follow the same steps but under your states process and deadlines.

If you are registered and live on campus, there are several voting sites based on where you live. If you are a Sandburg resident, you can vote on Election Day at the UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center. If you live in Cambridge Commons, you can vote at the Urban Ecology Center. If you live in Kenilworth Square Apartments, you can vote at the Charles Allis Art Museum. Finally, if you live in Riverview, you can vote at the Gordon Park Pavilion.

To vote at these locations, bring a valid form of ID. If you do not have a form of identification, the Panthercard Office will issue you one for free.

Voting will start on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

UWM will be hosting events during voter education week starting Oct. 7-9. There will be tables in Spaights Plaza from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. providing information for students on voting.

There will also be early voting available to Milwaukee residents at the Zelazo Center Oct. 22-25.
