Hank Green, a scientist, novelist, entrepreneur, and YouTube content creator, will visit UW-Milwaukee on Thursday, Dec. 5. He is best known for his YouTube channel, CrashCourse, which he runs with his brother, author John Green.
He will be speaking at UW-Milwaukee this Friday, Dec 5. A ticket is required for the event and they can be purchased online.
Hank Green has been known to talk about a wide variety of topics in the past. Topics have included, but are not limited to, how to deal with writer’s block, caring for other humans, his YouTube career and evolution and biology.
Green graduated from Eckerd College in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, making him a legitimate player within the science field. He went on to receive his master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Montana. He has a history of web design, having developed his first website in high school detailing the exploration of Mars. In graduate school, he designed websites for schools, including the University of Montana.
Green had success with his blog “EcoGeek,” which he created in graduate school, which has become a major publication in the environmental science world. He has since been published on National Geographic, The Weather Channel, NPR, and the New York Times.
He started the educational YouTube channel CrashCourse in 2012 with his brother. The goal of the channel is to get kids excited about learning, as opposed to reformatting the teacher’s curriculum. It focuses on science and humanities. It recently introduced physics, philosophy, and astronomy.
He also runs the channel “SciShow,” which was started at the same time as CrashCourse. Like his other channel, it was also funded by YouTube in their “Original Channel Initiative,” which was a project that promoted original content. The channel’s goal is to introduce science as a very approachable topic.
Tickets to see Green speak on Friday can be found online on the UW-Milwaukee website under campus events.
