Better Now by Oh Wonder (2019) – Brianna Schubert

I highly recommend any song by Oh Wonder, but their latest release is not only one of their better songs. It also has a very real message about being worried about a loved one, as well as about hope. Not to mention it has a very chill and catchy melody that is perfect for a fall afternoon!

Don’t Kill My Vibe by Sigrid (2017) – Brianna Schubert

While this is a slightly older song, I have found myself turning to this song at any moment that I need to feel empowered.  It is the ultimate woman-power song, and it never gets old to jam to.

Running with the Wolves by Aurora (2015)

“Running With The Wolves” is about freedom and joining nature again, getting away from phones and radio and all the stuff we keep around us.

Uuu by Field Medic (2019) – Maggie Holdorf

“Uuu” by Field Medic is the perfect romantic psychedelic folk song to put you in the warm and cozy feelings this Fall. This soft and gentle fingerstyle guitar will bring you to a nostalgic time in your life where your heart remained full and your mind stayed still. With lyrics as sweet as “I want you, you, you to swing with me through the noontime sky,” and “Loving you sure makes me afraid of losing. but I don’t care, I can’t slow down now,” you’ll be sure to fall head over heels this season.

Now I’m In It by Haim (2019) – Mitchell Stewart

“Now I’m In It” is the perfect song to listen to while strutting around campus. The beat is infectious and you can’t help but bounce your feet and dance around. It’s also a great song if you’re alone during this tragic cuffing season like I am. Haim always delivers some great tunes and this and their previous song, “Summer Girl,” are no exception.

Just Right by Grayscale (2019) – Alyssa Josephs

I’m a sucker for any song about nostalgia, and Grayscale opens their most recent release with a song that’s “Just Right” for that kind of vibe. It’s the kind of pop-punk track that makes the perfect soundtrack for a late-night drive. This song showcases the band’s progression from their debut album, showing growth in songwriting, production and musical abilities.

The Remedy by Polaris (2017) – Alyssa Josephs

Off their most debut release, “The Remedy” is a hard-hitting metalcore track from Polaris. I had the opportunity to see the Sydney, Australia natives open for Wage War on the “Pressure” tour in Chicago, and their performance blew me away. I’m eagerly waiting for their next release because they bring immense energy mixed with melodic elements.

Like Lightning by Foals (2019)- John Gomes

Coming off of part two of their double album “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost,” “Like Lightning” is a stomping mix of Black Keys’ blues-rock and Foals’ math-rock sensibilities. Dripping with swagger, this song makes me feel like I could run through a brick wall. If you need to get hyped for anything, play this song.

Just A Girl by No Doubt (1995) – Jena Kleindl

Any song that critiques the patriarchy and appears in Captain Marvel is right up my alley. Getting ready in the morning, walking to class, crying on my way home, it all works. Plus, who doesn’t love 90s Gwen Stefani?

I Suffocate by Varials (2019) – Jeremy Jentges

Off their most recent release “In Darkness,” Varials is a heavy-hitting metalcore band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania producing strong beats and riotous screams. The album displays a story of the emotions someone can feel while they are in the dark, whether good or bad. If you want to have a song hit so hard that your headphones disconnect this one is for you.
