Today: A low pressure trough following yesterday’s system perpetuates the winter storms through Tuesday morning. Along with it, the day’s low of 14 degrees will greet Milwaukee. Winds will be fairly mild, with an occasional gust reaching up to 18 miles an hour. The afternoon will bring marginally warmer temperatures of 20 degrees, and the strength of those occasional gusts will grow to potentially 26 miles an hour. The snow will pick up at this time as well, although the total accumulation expected is just under a half inch.

Tonight: The snow should taper off by mid-afternoon, leaving a blustery and cloudy night. Wind speeds will average 13 miles an hour with gusts picking up to almost 30 mph throughout the evening. Despite these conditions, expect the day’s high of 23 degrees to be reached in these later hours.
Tomorrow: The morning of New Years Eve will begin calm, with temperatures hanging around 20 degrees. The winds will be mild, and the skies cloudy. In the afternoon, another low pressure front is anticipated to affect the area bringing snow. As the temperatures warm into the upper 20’s, the possibility for sleet also comes into play. Models vary as to when this storm will subside. It will likely let up mid-afternoon, although some models predict it could last until midnight. All that to say, take caution when driving in the later hours of the evening. A high pressure system of dry, cold air masses is predicted to arrive whenever the precipitation passes, meaning the roads will ice over as soon as the snow is done!

Extended: As mentioned in Wednesday’s forecast, a high pressure system will begin to settle over the area bringing dry, cold air from western Canada. This means starting the new year off with icy roads as yesterday’s precipitation freezes over. The morning low is a mere 6 degrees, so bundle up during any holiday festivities. The skies will be mostly sunny as a result of the high pressure. The high will be 16 degrees, and the winds will be calm. Friday will be very similar (although slightly warmer) with a morning low of 13 degrees and a high of 22 degrees. Saturday will have a low of 7 degrees and a high of 21, with partly cloudy skies and average wind speeds.
