For the first time ever, Bublr Bikes transportation will be available throughout Wisconsin’s cold season. This is a change from last year, when Bublr’s city bikes were unavailable from December to mid-March.
Bublr will still close bike access during snow emergencies, however. Pass holders will receive an email warning them to find alternative transportation for the day.
UW-Milwaukee students can obtain a free pass to use the Bublr Bikes for the school year. Many students have already taken advantage.
Student Dominique Flannagan has been using the bikes since she first came to Milwaukee.
“I use the bikes to get from one place to another around campus”, Flannagan said.
She still plans to use the bikes in the winter.
“I’ll take the Bublr Bikes more often,” Flannagan said. “Since they’re studier, I think they can withstand the winter.”
The Bublr Bikes are manufactured to stand up to tough weather conditions. The bikes and the bike stations will be cleaned weekly to remove salt and grit to make sure that the winter conditions are not deteriorating the bikes.
