In honor of National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11, the UWM LGBT Resource center celebrates the event with Coming Out Monologues, which encourages students and members of the UWM community to share their stories through various mediums such as stand-up comedy, slam poetry, and storytelling.
All attendees were encouraged to take the stage and tell their story, as the event was open mic style. This allowed for a wide variety of students to share their unique experiences as well as provide advice for others going through similar situations.
The event took place in the Union Fireside Lounge with a packed house. The LGBT Resource Center stated that this event was their biggest yet and that they had plans to move into a bigger space to account for the exponentially increasing interest in the community.
The UWM LGBT Resource Center was founded Sept. 26, 2002, and has since provided students with an inclusive and welcoming space.
Upcoming LGBT events include:
- 31st Annual Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival- Oct. 12-23 in the UWM Cinema
