Zipcar, a global car sharing network, is bringing three new locations to the UW-Milwaukee area to increase accessibility for students. Due to the expansion, UWM students will now have access to 14 Zipcars near the campus.
Zipcar is becoming an increasingly popular way for students to travel, as it eliminates the dependency on bus services and transportation networks such as Uber and Lyft, while giving users the freedom and independence of their own vehicle to use.
“It’s a really nice and convenient option to have, and it gives you the freedom of driving your own vehicle”, said UWM Freshman Chloe Wilkerson.
Zipcar is especially popular among urban colleges, as the cost of keeping a car at school is becoming more costly.
UWM students are offered a discounted joining fee for Zipcar, at only $15, with rates starting at $7.50 per house and $69 per day. Zipcar also reduces the usual headaches that accompany being a car owner, as gas, insurance, and maintenance costs are included in the rates.
This expansion follows an increasing demand around the city, bringing the total number of Zipcars in Milwaukee to 44 vehicles.
New locations are as followed:
• 3019 North Frederick Avenue (Surface Lot)
• 2864 North Cramer Street (Surface Lot)
• Kenwood United Methodist Church, 2319 E Kenwood Blvd. (Surface Lot)
