Microsoft announced Monday that UW-Milwaukee alum Satya Nadella will replace current CEO Bill Gates. The former Panther has worked for Microsoft since 1992, after graduating from UWM with a master’s degree in computer science in 1990.
News outlets across Milwaukee and Wisconsin have latched onto his status as a UWM alumni, emphasizing the event’s role in advancing the research university’s image.
Nadella stood out to his professors as a hard-worker and would sleep over in the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences building to work late on research, according to an article on Fox 6. Former UWM computer science department chair K Vairan told the news station that he found a sleeping bag in the lab one day upon discovering this.
