Attention all bus riders: the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) will be deactivating all UPASS MCards for UWM students on May 22 to mark the end of the Spring 2015 semester.

It is important that all students keep their current MCards throughout the summer until the Fall 2015 semester begins. The cards will be reactivated beginning in September in time for student use during the new term. If you lose your card, you will be issued a new one at an additional cost of $15. The details regarding the process of reactivation are still being coordinated and will be released before the new semester begins.

For those students taking summer classes: don’t worry. You can email the Parking and Transit Office (uwmpark@uwm.edu) and they will reactivate your MCard upon request. All you need to provide is your first and last name, 9-digit student ID number, and your MCard ID number. This number is found on the back of the MCard at the bottom on the left, and is the 8-digit number to the right of the dash.

This has been the first school year to make use of the new MCards, which replaced the system of putting stickers on student ID’s every semester.

“The MCards offer better control of access to the system and provide a means to track and report ridership patterns,” says Mike Priem, Senior Facilities Planning Specialist at UWM. “UWM Parking and Transit has been a proponent for this type of system for many years, in the interest of ensuring our students are getting a good value for the segregated fees that are designated for the program.”

To reactivate your MCard in person or purchase a new one, visit the Parking and Transit Office on the ground floor of the UWM Union. Be sure to have your student ID with you.
