Bright and early Sunday morning, students, alumni, staff, UWM supporters, and even pets came out to attend the 9th Annual Panther Prowl. Sponsored by the UWM Alumni Association, the 5K run/walk attracted hundreds of people of all ages from all around the city. The event featured 1,552 participants and raised almost $30,000.
Sal Impellitteri finished first with a time of 15:49, Reilly Jacob in second with a time of 16:36, and in third place was Bobby Glotfelty with a time of 16:51. The first 100 people to finish received a special “I beat the Chancellor” t-shirt.
This was UWM freshman Jordyn Noennig’s first year running the 5K.
“I usually don’t run down there,” she stated. “The trails were nice.”
The route went through the university’s campus and Lake Park, with the finish line being back where the race began on Hartford and Downer Ave.
Jason Skowronski, a sophomore, finished with a time of 29:02. This was his first time at the Prowl.
“I really wanted the experience of training for my first competitive run of any sort,” he said.
The post-event celebration and awards presentation commenced at 11:00am. Some of the awards were Stroller Spirit, Team Spirit, and the Fastest Team. A rock wall and music kept the event alive throughout the morning and afternoon. The event was full of positive energy: all ages had fun, even if you were one of the dogs in a tutu.
“I thought it was a great first experience; it was really amazing to see so many people come out for it,” Skowronski said. “UWM should definitely hold more events like this!”
