After the weather played havoc with their series against Kansas State, the Milwaukee Panthers baseball team is losing another series this season. According to the website of UIC Flames athletics, their series against UWM this coming weekend has been cancelled. No official reasons have been cited, but the game will not be made up due to its being a non-conference showdown.
However, according to a source with the team, the team will play in the upcoming week. Although nothing has been verified, rumors have been heard about some of the options the Panthers have to play. One option was to play former Horizon League rival Butler, but that is unlikely. There is a possible game during the week at Louisville, and another rumor of playing at Austin Peay University. If weather delays any of these options, there is talk of going back to Florida, although the Florida opponent is unknown.
Weather is a frequent thorn in the side of UWM’s baseball team. Last season, the abominable weather and field conditions prevented UWM from playing a home game until late April. This year’s home opener is scheduled for March 26th against Edgewood. Many other teams face similar cancellations due to inclement weather.
The Panthers are not certain of their upcoming schedule, but should find out before long.
