UWM basketball fans got their first look at this year’s team as the Panthers hosted their Black & Gold inter squad scrimmage Tuesday night at the Klotsche Center. The Gold team defeated the Black team 74-64.
The Gold Team was lead by Juniors Trinson White and Jevon Lyle. White had the best night out of all the players recording a double-double. He finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Through out the entire night White was attacking the rim and drawing fouls. He was also arguably the Panthers most efficient post player as he used his speed to get around his defenders. White even stepped back and hit a few mid range jump shots during his time on the court, which had to have pleased head coach Rob Jeter.
Lyle finished the game with 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Lyle seemed to be a step ahead of his defenders the entire game as he was getting to the basket off the dribble at will. He even knocked down a few three pointers for the Gold Team.
Lyle, who is a very quick guard, could potentially play a huge role this season at the guard spot as the Panthers look to fill the spot of Jordan Aaron who graduated this past year. If Lyle can maintain a consistent jump shot this season, the junior guard will see plenty of minutes.
Akeem Springs played well for the Black Team as he ended the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Springs will be another player Coach Jeter will look at to help replace Aaron. Austin Arians also chipped in 15 points off five three pointers.
Milwaukee’s first exhibition game takes place November 6th at UWM Panther Arena against Platteville.
