Reliving past experiences may be something a lot of us tend to avoid. Whether it be failed relationships, loved ones passing away, or just general sore spots from our past that push their way to the forefront of our mind.

Duncan Fellows dives into the turmoil of memories on their new LP, “The Sadlands.” The UWM Post was able to talk with band members Cullen Trevino and Colin Harman about their upcoming album.

The album explores experiences they have encountered in the past three years. The album is all about the duality they experienced in these moments.

Duncan Fellows all met in college and have remained friends throughout.

“I think the reason we’ve stayed playing music together is we’re just close friends,” said Cullen. “Yeah, I think that’s the main reason, we’ve played music together for eight years now.”

Their new album is all about the past three years of their lives and the sort of encounters they had at that time.

“They’re little vignettes over the past three years of our life,” said Colin. “Things had happened in Cullen and I’s life and we sort of wrote songs quickly after those moments and they just sort of stuck around. Some more on the happy side and on the sad. That duality found it’s way onto the album.”

Colin took these vignettes and designed a video game for “The Sadlands.” The game allows users to log in and visit The Sadlands that the whole album is about. The world will, according to Colin, react to certain events in either a happy way or a sad way.

Colin has said that he took inspiration from games like “World of Warcraft” and “Runescape” and put it in this 8-bit world.

I can’t wait to play the video game and experience the world of “The Sadlands.” The album is amazing, and has no skippable songs. “The Sadlands” is sure to lift your spirits and get you dancing around your room through the optimistic beats combined with the wonderful lyrics.

Both the video game and album will be available on October 16th. You can find the video game at thesadlands.com where it will be free to play.
