The Milwaukee Repertory Theater is hosting a series of four free virtual events in We Rise: MKE’s Celebration of Black History Month.
The series, which takes place on Facebook Live and YouTube Live, celebrates the “tremendous contributions that African American artists, administrators and audiences have made to the Milwaukee Rep and the City of Milwaukee,” according to the Milwaukee Rep’s website.
The series kicked off on Feb. 1 with its first event, “To Be Young, Gifted and Black: A Celebration of Lorraine Hansberry.” The event features poetry, interviews and a reunion of artists from Milwaukee Rep’s 2012/13 Season production of “A Raisin in the Sun.”
The next event in the series, entitled “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize – A Celebration of Black Theater Artists” is on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. The night features Black artists from both onstage and behind-the-scenes at Milwaukee Rep (see website for full lineup). Tarik Moody of 88Nine Radio Milwaukee will be hosting the event.
The final two events include “It Takes a Villiage – A Conversation with Black Artists in Milwaukee” on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. and “The Ground on Which I Stand – A Celebration of August Wilson” on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
The Milwaukee Rep’s website has more information and links to the Facebook Live and YouTube Live events.
