Milwaukee is always looking for more ways to draw people in. Milwaukee has a deep history, a wide variety of cultures, beautiful architecture, the list goes on. One of the most ideal things about the city is its location next to Lake Michigan. The lake, which covers an area of 22,300 miles and is the third largest Great Lake, is something that brings millions of people to see.
Because so many states surround the Great Lakes, cruises throughout the lakes have become more popular, and tourism in major cities on the lakes have grown because of it. Due to this rise, the city chose to begin funding a new dock for Cruise Ships to land. They received the funding, and plans for construction began.
Ground broke for the $17 million deep water dock back in September 2025. It will be located at 2320 S. Lincoln Memorial Dr. and is anticipated to be completed in June. It is made for Seawaymax vessels (ships that can navigate through the St. Lawrence Seaway canal locks.) It is not the only dock that accommodates cruise ships, the other is at the Discovery World/Pier Wisconsin. Only time will tell what this will do for the Milwaukee tourism industry
