UWM journalism student Lauren Keene won three separate first place awards for her print, audio, and visual work. Keene’s sweep is a first for Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies department.

“Of course, it feels great to see my blood, sweat and tears acknowledged,” Keene wrote in a post.

The “small, but mighty” department, as instructor Jane Hampden often says, took home awards: in Best Audio Feature Story, Best News Story Single or Ongoing, and Best Sports Story, too name a few.

Media Milwaukee won three awards in the “Best Blog” category for their coverage of the midterms, March for Our Lives, and the gun march in Washington.

This year nominees include Media Milwaukee’s continued investigation of sexual harassment on campus as well as the JAMS 230 class’s coverage on the 2018 Midterm Elections.

Earlier this month, UWM student journalists won five national Society of Professional Journalists awards for reporting, writing, audio, and photography.
