Today: Today looks to be an active day as we have chances for some strong-to-severe storms throughout the day. In this scenario there may be a chance that nothing happens, but if storms develop, they’ll intensify rapidly. The first chance comes in the late morning/early afternoon as a warm front moves into our area. Large hail is the main threat with anything that pops up. Temperatures will warm into the low 70s near the lake and into the upper 70s inland, and the wind will pick up, blowing 15-20 mph. Dew point temperatures will also rise, making the air feel stickier. A second round is possible in the mid-afternoon, but the confidence level with that round isn’t too high. However, anything that does develop has the possibility of producing hail and isolated tornadoes. The main event comes in the evening and overnight hours as a strong line of storms is expected to move eastward from the western part of Wisconsin. All hazards are possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and a couple of tornadoes. There is some uncertainty on exactly when and where this line will develop, but make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings – especially overnight – and know where your tornado-safe place is.

Tonight: The chance for storms continues throughout the night as a cold front associated with the strong low-pressure system moves closer. Chances for storms diminish by 3 a.m. Temperatures will stay in the upper 60s throughout the night, and winds will stay blustery, blowing 20-25 mph.

Tomorrow: Tuesday looks to be windy as the cold front moves through early in the afternoon. Showers and a couple of thunderstorms will stick around in the morning as the cold front approaches, but should end before 7 a.m. Winds will shift from the southwest to the northwest as the cold front passes. As of now, it looks like that will be sometime in the mid-to-late morning. Temperatures will start in the upper 60s in the morning and progressively fall throughout the day, dipping into the low 50s in the afternoon once the cold front passes. Overnight, temperatures will bottom out in the low 40s, and winds will calm down.

Extended Forecast, Wednesday, April 30 – Friday, May 2: Wednesday will start off sunny and calm as a high-pressure system dominates in the morning. Temperatures will warm into the upper 40s. The next system that will bring us some unsettled weather will begin to move in. This will bring in some clouds and a chance for rain in the afternoon. Temperatures will fall into the low 40s overnight, and a steadier rain moves in. Thursday looks to be rainy as that system moves in fully. Temperatures will warm into the mid-50s during the day and fall into the low 40s overnight, as the rain will eventually taper off. The rain stops fully by Friday morning, giving way to clear skies in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-to-upper 50s.
