Today: A strong low-pressure system that brought showers to the area yesterday will move farther to the north and east of Wisconsin. With this weather maker moving away, a more potent one will be taking its place. A strong ridge of high pressure will move in from the west during your Thursday, but before that gets here we will have to deal with overcast skies on your Thursday morning as temperatures begin to rise through the 40’s before topping out near 50 degrees for a daytime high. Gusty northwest winds will be whipping with sustained speeds around 12 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. There may be a few isolated showers in the late afternoon (4 p.m.). Skies will begin to clear in the late afternoon and into the evening and overnight hours.
Overnight: Skies will begin to clear in the late evening and into the overnight hours. Winds will ease decreasing to 5-10 mph still out of the northwest and temperatures will slide down into the low 30’s which will allow for the first frost of the season. A freeze warning has been issued for the Milwaukee area overnight Thursday, where we’re looking to see our first frost develop. If you have sensitive crops, ensure they’re protected for tonight’s freeze.

Tomorrow: Strong high pressure will be right overhead on Friday which will bring some brighter and drier weather. Temperatures in the morning will rise out of the chilly 30’s all the way through the 40’s and end up warming into the low 50s by the afternoon. With mostly clear skies northwest winds will be light through the morning and into the afternoon. By the evening winds will begin to change to the southeast but remain fairly calm, however this wind change will warm up overnight lows preventing another frost. Low temperatures will only make it down into the upper 30’s with mostly clear skies continuing.
Extended: A dome of high pressure will hold control over Wisconsin’s weather for most of the weekend into the start of the next work week. Day time high temperatures Saturday through next Monday will generally be held in the mid to upper 50’s and overnight lows will be in the upper 40’s. Skies will have a typical fall look of overcast, but in the afternoons we may get a few peaks of filtered sun. Winds unlike fall will mainly stay out of the southeast (5-10 mph). Finally, the forecast looks to stay dry so get out there and enjoy a Wisconsin fall day.
