Saturday

Saturday stays relatively mild for late December, though skies remain mostly cloudy as stratus lingers across southeast Wisconsin. Afternoon temperatures rise into the upper 30s to near 40F, with south winds increasing to 10-20 mph as warm air advection strengthens. Some breaks in the low clouds are possible later in the day, but high clouds will also increase ahead of the next system.

Saturday Night

Saturday night turns unsettled as moisture increases from the southwest. Lows fall only slightly, settling into the mid to upper 30s, with south winds at 10-15 mph. Patchy fog, possibly dense at times, may redevelop overnight, especially west of Milwaukee. Spotty light rain or drizzle becomes possible late.

Sunday

Sunday starts mild and damp as a strengthening low pressure system approaches. Periods of rain are expected, with temperatures holding in the upper 30s to low 40s through the afternoon. South winds increase to 15-25 mph, becoming gusty at times. As the low rapidly deepens and tracks northeast, colder air begins pushing in late in the day.

Sunday Night

Conditions change quickly Sunday night as colder air pours in behind the departing low. Rain transitions to snow from west to east, with temperatures falling into the teens by Monday morning. Northwest winds strengthen dramatically to 25-35 mph with gusts up to 40-45 mph, producing blowing snow and sharply falling wind chills. Snow accumulations of 1-2 inches are expected by morning, with locally higher totals toward central Wisconsin.

Snow/mix chances Sunday night through Monday morning.

Monday

Monday remains blustery and cold as polar air overspreads the region. Lingering light snow tapers off during the morning, with skies gradually turning partly cloudy. High temperatures struggle to reach the upper teens to mid-20s, while strong northwest winds at 20-30 mph keep wind chills in the single digits below zero to single digits above zero.

Monday Night

Winds slowly diminish Monday night as high pressure begins to build in. Skies partially clear, and temperatures drop to 7-13F, with northwest winds easing to 10-15 mph. Wind chills remain cold but improve slightly compared to earlier in the day.

Tuesday

Cold but quieter weather settles in Tuesday under northwest flow aloft. Skies are partly cloudy, with highs in the upper teens to lower 20s. Northwest winds continue at 10-15 mph. A weak clipper system passing north of the area may bring a slight chance of light snow, mainly north of I-94, though most areas stay dry.

Wednesday

Wednesday stays cold as another weak disturbance approaches. Highs remain in the teens to lower 20s, with west to northwest winds at 10-20 mph. There is a low chance for light snow, especially late in the day or at night, though confidence in coverage and accumulation remains low at this time.
