Today: The 5-Day Weather Forecast January 1, 2026 begins the new year nearing the single digits as temperatures continue to drop until the sun rises. When most people wake this morning, snow starts floating around again. The snow system enters at 9 a.m., peaks around 1 p.m., and exits at 7 p.m., leaving for northern Indiana. While this blows through, gusts and wind do not exceed 21 mph, so wind chills are manageable. Cool temperatures dominate the day, barely reaching a high of 17.

Tonight: Alertness while travelling remains imperative with the half-inch snowfall posing some risk to untreated or less-frequented roads. Otherwise, clouds clear throughout the night and as Milwaukee slinks back to 9 for a low. To be transparent, all forecasting models disagree at some point in this 5-day period, and temperatures and weather systems are highly fluid at this point. Please keep a close eye on your local forecasts this week.

Tomorrow: The cold lets up a small bit on the second day of the new year, allowing a high of 24. Clearing throughout the day, clouds dissipate, and at 4:30 p.m. reveal a beautiful sunset. Winds ebb and flow most of Friday but generally blow at 8 mph with gusts up to 16 mph. Temperatures fall steadily while clouds gather, bringing some snowflakes along with the low of 15. Despite an early start, significant accumulation holds off until Saturday morning.

Weekend Outlook: Saturday sees the passing of a light snow, with new snow totaling upwards of a quarter of an inch. Struggling to return to Friday’s high, temperatures only hit 23 and then drop back to 13 for a low. Winds increase slightly to 9 mph, but gusts stay below 20 mph, keeping wind chills in check. The low for Saturday is the low for Sunday, because Sunday winds change dramatically from the northwest to the south, shoving warm air into the area. While temperatures rise, another weather system enters with snow in the afternoon. Snowfall accumulates to a half inch before the nighttime high of 29.

Extended: This system begins with snow but switches to ice and then rain in the morning of Monday. Ground temperatures might remain lower, so remember caution going into the morning commute. Some models so not have this system due to upper air trends and detail issues, so keeping up to date on forecasts becomes extremely important going into the week. With rain gone and clouds breaking, Milwaukee temperatures hit 38. Winds gusting in the morning to 25 mph lessens somewhat to 23 mph in the night. Late Monday might see more rain, but for now just expect clouds and a low of 29.
