Today: The 5-Day Weather Forecast January 4, 2026 starts chilly with a touch of fog. While the fog clears, skies above turn gray, occupied clouds. Taking advantage of the gray blanket, temperatures warm quickly to a high of 26 with a southern wind. Though only blowing with a maximum of 22 mph, especially at night, the wind causes warm air advection. Simply put, wind currents above move warmer air into the area, adding more than daytime heating to local temperatures. Otherwise put, warm air advection affects Milwaukee today, and this continues into the night.

Tonight: As the setting sun darkens our skies around 4 p.m., so does precipitation. Thankfully, the worst of the freezing rain and snow trends to the north on models. Milwaukee only sees trace amounts of snow before a coating of freezing rain. The ice-coated roads and sidewalks become slippery unless well-treated, so exercise caution when traveling, particularly in the early night. Passing by rather fast, clouds break up later, giving glimpses of the waning moon. Temperatures waver slightly around 25 before the morning commute of Monday.

Tomorrow: When the sun begins its ascent, the clouds gather and blot it out of the sky. Temperatures rise steadily to 38 and hopefully undo the slick ice of the night before. Calming from Sunday’s gusts, winds breeze along at 6 mph, seldom reaching gusts of 17 mph, if at all. Despite the clouds, precipitation waits until night to enter from the west. Starting at about 10 p.m., drizzles of rain plague Wisconsin. Going further into the future, models disagree with amounts and locations. Currently, Milwaukee receives a small bit of rain with the possibility of it freezing because of temperatures dropping to 30 in the night. Freezing rain and snow are only possible at night, though, as temperatures quickly recover from freezing Tuesday.

Tuesday: Rain accumulates over the day to an estimated quarter inch, if staying in liquid form. Temperatures range from 37 in the day to 29 late at night, and the rain stops near midnight. Chances of the system remaining wintry is low at this time, but this could change. Winds increase today to 8 mph with 18 mph gusts, pushing air in almost every direction, starting in the south and rotating counterclockwise to the west to end the day.

Extended: For two days, precipitation chances seem to hold low precipitation chances, but do not rule out a stray raindrop. Heating up past January averages, highs for Wednesday and Thursday are 39 and 43, respectively, each night falling to 32. Winds blow less each day, but Thursday sees gusts of 19 mph. This is in anticipation of Thursday night’s low-pressure system. Preliminary rain drips in the late night, but other specifics of this storm are highly variable at this time. Remember to stay up to date with your local forecasts!
