The Milwaukee School of Languages (MSL) girls flag football team has earned a trip to the NFL Flag Football Championships after winning the regional tournament in Green Bay this past June.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for our team and our community,” said MSL Athletic Director Robert Slavens. “These student-athletes have worked extremely hard, supported one another every step of the way, and earned the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the country.
The 32-team tournament takes place July 24–26 in Indianapolis, Indiana and features one team representing each NFL franchise, with MSL representing the Green Bay Packers.
“We couldn’t be more proud to represent the Green Bay Packers and our community on the national stage,” Slavens said.
The championship games will receive national television coverage on ESPN, ESPN2 and Disney, allowing the student-athletes to showcase their talent before a nationwide audience.
In recognition of their regional championship, each player received a personalized Green Bay Packers championship jersey featuring their name, along with a commemorative championship ring.
Quarterback Savanna Davis was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her outstanding performance throughout the competition.
The flag football league is one of Milwaukee Recreation’s alternative club sports offerings for middle and high school students, and the club is completely free for students.
Participating schools receive a grant from the Green Bay Packers, which is used to purchase equipment and supplies.
