More than 3,900 students are moving into University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee residence halls starting Thursday, Aug. 27, before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
UWM Chancellor Thomas Gibson will be helping out and greeting students and families from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Sandburg Hall, 3400 N. Maryland Ave.
Move-in will be staggered over three days at Sandburg to allow for a smooth process. Move-in at the other UWM residence halls – Cambridge Commons, RiverView and Kenilworth Square Apartments – takes place between Aug. 27 and Sept. 1, with arrival times similarly spread out to avoid overcrowding in parking garages and elevators.
Classes begin on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Some other interesting statistics and fun facts from University Housing about move-in:
- 29: The number of states from which UWM students will be traveling to move into residence halls, from as far away as Alaska.
- 27: The number of countries represented by University Housing residents.
- 75 and 55: The number of hours in the summer and during the academic year dedicated to training student resident assistants and desk/security staff.
- 1,388: The number of students able to move in on the first day.
- Over 10,000 pounds: The amount of cardboard University Housing recycles each move-in week.
- About 300: The number of moving carts in use per hour to help residents roll their belongings up to their rooms.
