WISPIRG, the Wisconsin branch of the non-profit Public Interest Research Group, will host their New Voters Project event meant to help raise awareness and engagement among younger voters in future elections.
Friday, June 19 from 3 to 4 P.M., anyone interested in joining the project can join the video meeting by registering for the event online because of concerns over coronavirus spread.
Since younger voters are becoming a larger portion of the overall voting population as time goes on, making sure younger generations are engaged in politics at all levels is crucial to a successful democracy. A Pew Research study found the amount of eligible Generation Z voters increased by 6% from the last presidential election.
The WISPIRG event will include information on how to get voters to increase engagement through knowledge of voting tools, absentee ballots, virtual training sessions and integrating non-partisan voter registration, according to their press release.
WISPIRG encourages students to use the WIStudentVote.org website to register to vote and for other voting resources.
WISPIRG is focused on non-partisan action regardless of students’ beliefs and has been responsible for registering over 2 million voters across university campuses across the country.
In past presidential election years, WISPIRG has helped college campuses across the country more than double young voter turnout.
